Warrington Service Area U12s - Learn to Train
Warrington Service Area has been running there first ever 'Learn To Train' programme for u12s in Warrington. The scheme provides u12's in the area who play Rugby League at School or at Clubs to learn new skills specifically agility, balance, coordination, speed and core Rugby league skills.
The programme is running for 12 weeks during December & January and there will also be an educational session on Diet & Nutrition and the dangers of Alcohol & Drug Abuse.
Each school and Club in Warrington were asked to nominate their best athletically gifted players these are not necessarily the best Rugby League players but players who will benefit from the LTAD programme.
From that a group of 40 u12 players train for an hour each Friday 6-7 at Birchwood High School doing mainly fundamental movement work, also concentrating on SAQ and linking a Core Rugby League Skill to the activities.
Head Coach Peter Nicholson and assistants Danny Parkinson, Paul Norman and Mike Syres have been running the sessions each week on a voluntary basis.

& Cheshire Service Area Coordinator Alan Kilshaw said.
"This is the first time the Service Area has taken a lead on the u12s LTAD programme in the past the Wolves have run this but we felt this year working with the Wolves the SA would run this Learn to Train programme.
The level of inclusion is really good for me 40 kids are coming along each week and learning new and different skills. I have liaised with each school and club and there are all very complimentary of the work that is been delivered, the clubs especially don't get enough time with their players to do this amount of specific training."
The programme is being sponsored by TOTAL STEEL AND FABRICATIONS LTD and they have provided kit for all the participants and coaches.
"This is a great community project and we are very grateful to Mike Lomax at Total Steel who's Sponsorship has provided kit for all the players and staff."
